Darrell Havard aka Funky D aka Octopus Prime is a native of Bay Springs, MS and a resident of Hattiesburg, MS. Darrell plays Chapman Stick, and keys, sings backup vocals, and does some DJing in the live band. He first hooked up with Afroman in late 2000 while working at T-Bone's Record Store in Hattiesburg. The store was also a front for the T-Bone's Records label which helped Afroman get his CD's distributed in the early days. "Afroman came into the store one day, putting up flyers to recruit a live band. I had just finished music school at USM and was thinking, 'Now what?'. So I figured 'What the hell? Why Not?', and volunteered to play bass for him. From there, it just took off!" Darrell toured heavily with Afroman in 2001, before and during Afro's stint with Universal's Republic Records. In 2002-2003 he toured with the jazz/rock quintet Cookout and held side project gigs with his jazz group The Stick Quartet, and the experimental hip/hop outfit The Jackers, now known as The Griffinz. Darrell resumed touring with Afro in Fall of 2003 and has been touring with him since.
Premo "Jody" Stallone aka Jody Loco is a native of Natchez, MS and also a resident of Hattiesburg, MS. Jody holds down the drums and backup vocals position of the 2 Zigg Zaggs. Jody hooked up with Afro and Darrell on a New Year's Eve gig in Hattiesburg in 2000/2001. At the time, he was the drummer for the local rock band Day of the Sun. He had been a fan of Afroman's music for quite some time prior to that show, catching Afro at local house parties in Hattiesburg. Funky D recalls, "Jody already knew Afro's songs, and his drums were already set up from Day of the Sun's set. So when Fro and I hit the stage for our set, Jody just stayed behind the drums. From that point on he was the official drummer for the group. I don't think Day of the Sun was very happy, because we kind of stole him from their group." Shortly after Jody joined the Afro crew, the band quickly took off and toured extensively throughout the Southeast and Afroman dubbed the Funky D/Jody Loco team The 2 Zigg Zaggs. During the 2 Zigg Zagg's hiatus with Afroman in 2002-2003, he played drums on the T-Bone's Records project "Mood Elevator", produced by trip-hop producers Headfridge and King Leisure and featuring vocalist Lhay Browning and also played with the Thomas Jackson Trio.
The 2 Zigg Zaggs are currently working on an album for Hungry Hustler Records tentatively titled "The Mississippi Kings" due out in Fall 2005. It will feature Hungry Hustler artists Strainj, Blaq, and Afroman and feature some Zigg Zaggs instrumentals. You can find some Zigg Zaggs tracks on Afroman's "Afroholic: The Even Better Times" and "Jobe Bells" albums and the Hungry Huslterz compilation "Starvation is Motivation".
